PHOTO ART - CAROL WATSON

I’ve finally take the leap and will be opening a gallery devoted to photographic and digital fine art in the Texas hill country!! It will be located near the courthouse square in Johnson City, TX and we will have our grand opening on November 23rd -- the day after Thanksgiving. This is an exciting and hectic time for me! And yes, it will be featuring the work of other photographers and digital artists (besides myself) through regular “Call For Entries” for juried exhibitions.

Feel free to visit the gallery’s website for updates and news related to the gallery:

I had three images accepted by the Cahoon Museum of American Art in Cape Cod, MA. The title of the exhibition is “Tree-mendous” and I was one of three people who had the maximum number of entries selected for the exhibition. The exhibition runs from Aug. 7 to Sep. 30, 2007.

“Tree-mendous” is the Cahoon Museum’s first national juried exhibition. The selections were made by Don Stone, a nationally known N.H. artist with full membership in the National Academy, representation in many museum collections and considerable experience as a juror. He was gracious enough to quickly assume the task when noted artist, author and teacher Charles Sovek-who was the announced juror-died shortly after the deadline for the receipt of entries. From a field of 372 entries, Stone whittled the exhibition down.

to 52 pieces. Artworks include oil, acrylic, watercolor and pastel paintings; photography (including digital images); sculpture; various print media; and jewelry. Museum visitors will have the opportunity to vote for a Visitor’s Choice Award, to be awarded at the end of the show. Most of the pieces in the exhibition will be available for purchase.

Three artists had the maximum of three works accepted for inclusion in the show. A trio of fairly large canvases - painted in a clean, clear style by Pamela J. Hart of Naperville, Ill., - take us into quiet, wooded places dappled with sunlight and shadows.

n part, from pine needles, the twisting fiber sculptures of Peggy Wyman of Macomb, Mo., evoke the shapes and rhythms of trees. A threesome of digital images by Carol Watson of Austin, Tx, emphasize the unusual structure of some trees. Her “Domingo Tree”, for instance, shows the wide spread of a rambling root system that begins above ground.

My image, Palo Verde #1, has begun a European Tour as part of the International Photography Awards Best in Show exhibition. Here’s the current dates for the exhibitions:
March 09 - London, UK.
April 10 through April 30 in Stockholm, Sweden.
April 20 through June 5 in Thessaloniki and Athens, Greece.
May 17 through 27 - Lodz, Poland.
ITALY - Dates TBA.

One of my images, Swayback Barn, has been selected to be published in a book titled "The World’s Greatest Black and White Photography".

"Three years in the making and 13,000 images screened, “The World’s Greatest Black & White Photography” is the essential collection of winning images from the finest Spider Fellows. A ‘best of’ chronicle from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd annual Black and White Spider Awards. This book is guaranteed to Inspire!"

Three of my images were selected as nominated finalists for the 2007 Black and White Spider Awards. “Black and White Spider Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence in black and white photography. This celebrated event shines a spotlight on the best professional and amateur photographers worldwide and honors the finest images with the highest achievements in black and white photography.” Thousands of photographers enter in this competition and the list of jurors is quite impressive. So, I’m very pleased to have images selected as finalists in three categories: Abstract, Architectural, and Nature.

Two of my images, Palo Verde #1 and Yagul Cactus #1, were selected again this year to participate in an annual juried exhibition titled High and Dry at Texas Tech university. The exhibition will run from Dec. 1, 2006 to Jan. 17, 2007. Last year, one of my images won second place at the 2005 High and Dry exhibit . That image was also selected by the ICSALS to appear on their Holiday greeting card.
